We've unearthed a dreamy and rare matcha that sets new records for extreme quality. It's made in a valley in Uji (Kyoto) that's been producing great matcha for at least 400 years. If you ever want to know what pure umami tastes like, look no further. The finish can rev on for several minutes, leaving you to wonder how an aroma and texture can linger for so long. Pure electric green color, with aromas that exude fresh chocolate. From a family-run coop obsessed with providing the highest expression of the purest matcha they can manage to coax out of the ground.
Matcha of this quality requires the time-tested "honzu" method of cultivation and harvest, the ancient canopy made with bamboo poles, reeds, hemp string, and straw to filter out sunlight. In the Ogura area, there is a large pond where thick reeds grow. Every leaf is coddled, in ways only obsessive Japanese matcha farmers can dream up, from first bud to ground matcha. The varietal is Uji MIdori.
One of the best ways to enjoy a matcha of this quality is to prepare and drink it with generous portions of matcha, in the thick or "koi" style. It's an experience like nothing else in terms of texture, taste, and subsequent awareness states. The matcha is the deepest and most vibrant shade of green, with a heavy dose of umami -- pure umami has never tasted this good.
Try making a five-gram bowl and sharing it with a few others. Bound to make an outstanding impression.
HOW TO MAKE
I’m constantly ordering from Breakaway and have never been disappointed. The SE Blend is creamy and is my coffee alternative.
Wow. So I have a two step review. First I tried this in a sampler that contained blends 97, 99, 100 and this. I tried them progressively, and felt that the SE blend was nice, but not worth the cost. Thought about leaving a comment, didn’t in the end. Then I went back to 97 and 99, and really noticed the difference in quality, smoothness, and nuances. I now treated myself to 100g of SE, and enjoy starting my day with it. My palate is not sophisticated enough to recognize different flavors, I just know that this tastes the best to me so far out of the blends I tried. Very smooth, pleasant taste, blends beautifully, and provides lasting energy with no jitters.
This one is so lovely! As I posted in an earlier review, the 99 has been my daily blend, but I think the SE has now seduced me into being my daily matcha because of its exceptionally velvety crema and hint of sweet green veggies.
This one tastes like baby vegetables, very fresh, floral, aromatic and no bitterness. It is obviously a very special blend, although it would be perfect for everyday drink-ability.
I had no idea that a tea could make my life better.
This matcha is now part of my daily routine. It's worth every penny. I feel energized and balanced each time I have it.
Very good matcha but I prefer the Blend 100. A little to veggie tasting for me but still really good. Going to try Daphne next.
I use this on special occasions, it's the best. You have to try it.
Delicious. The best matcha I have ever had.
My daily blend is Blend 99. I decided to try the SE as a special treat tea, and am so very happy I did. The crema is luxurious and a magic green, the mouth feel satiny, and the aroma intoxicating.
