Berkeley-based Kiyomi Koide created these creamy, satiny, generously sized tumblers for us, and we couldn't be happier with them. Has a creamy, off-white glaze. Dishwasher and microwave safe, but we recommend hand washing (they're a true pleasure to wash). 4" tall, 3.25" diameter. Made in Berkeley, California. Ceramicist Hideki Yokoo threw these beauties for us in his lovely downtown San Francisco studio. Kohiki refers to the white foundational makeup that geisha often use, but in ceramics it refers to the application, with a small brush, of loose white clay over a dark clay body to create organic markings. Flat bottom, fits perfectly even in small hands. For those who prefer to use the chasen, the traditional bamboo matcha whisk.  Dimensions: 2.5" tall,  4" diameter Capacity: 8oz. / 0.17L at full capacity, but we recommend 4-5 oz for matcha. These matte beauties that resemble thin birch trees, were thrown for us by the amazing David Ernster, fired in his wood kiln at his home studio in New Hampshire. Made in the Mino-style of beautiful yet practical ceramics, in the small town of Taji, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. These two-toned cups are glazed on top only; the lower part is the raw earth-toned clay, giving them a soft and inviting touch. The outer rim of the saucers is also unglazed clay, creating a lovely contrast. Works well with coffee too!
